surf neil 300x241 Adventure: Resources to Get Started

Now that we have started our Spirit of Adventure series, I thought I should put together a list of resources to get you thinking about possible adventures you could go on. National Geographic Adventure recently rated the best adventure travel companies on Earth. If that isn’t a great endorsement, I don’t know what is. I have compiled five of my favorites from their list to get you thinking.

1. Journeys International

Not exactly budget travel, but they offer some amazing signature adventures like, Madagascar, Ladakh, and India. If you are looking for top of the line, once in a lifetime memories… this is probably the one for you.

2. O.A.R.S.

This is the site to visit if you are wanting an awesome river adventure. They specialize in Grand Canyon tours, and most major North American rivers. They are also expanding to include South America and the South Pacific.

3. Bike Hike Adventures

Their focus is hiking and biking, but you can customize your trip to include almost any activity. They also have a great section for family trips and volunteer travel.

4. Africa Adventure Consultants

This site has great options for three different budget categories. For example, you could do a safari in Tanzania for under $3000. In the $3000 to $5000 category, there is a great 10 day trip to Botswana. And, in the category I’ll never qualify for, how about the “Cairo to Capetown Fantasy” trip?

5. Exum Mountain Guides

This group offers climbing lessons and guided ascents for all skill levels, primarily in Grand Teton National Park. They have trips for family and kids, day climbs, and all sorts of winter activities.

I put together this list just to offer inspiration and ideas of what is possible. There are definitely cheaper ways to see the world, and easier ways to have adventures. Some of our favorite family trips have been simple and close to home.

One of my future posts in this series will be a list of great shoe-string-budget adventure options. So, if you know of any good ones you think I should include, please send them to me at:

    Hi, Sunny!

Welcome to my blog! I hope you’ll stick around and, more importantly, that you’ll go out and have some wonderful adventures.

I’m cheap. I’m holding out for the shoe-string-budget-adventure options. ;-)

I heard that, Michael! I can barely afford the travel guides! But if I had the means, by golly, I’d book one of these cool trips.

    =-)
