I am very excited about today’s Spirit of Adventure story because it is a guest post by Nadia Ballas-Ruta of Happy Lotus. I love having readers and fellow bloggers share their stories so that others will be inspired to have adventures of their own. Enjoy!

Whenever I tell someone that I lived in India for six months, inevitably the reaction is: “Why?”
When I was living in India, there were times when that same question would cross my mind. However, it was one of the best decisions that I ever made. Since Mondays at Quest for Balance are about adventure, I am just going to focus on that aspect of living in India.

People are often unreasonable, irrational, and self-centered. Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives. Be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends and some genuine enemies. Succeed anyway.
If you are honest and sincere people may deceive you. Be honest and sincere anyway.
What you spend years creating, others could destroy overnight. Create anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous. Be happy anyway.
The good you do today, will often be forgotten. Do good anyway.
Give the best you have, and it will never be enough. Give your best anyway.

“Peace begins with a smile.” –Mother Teresa
When my son was two or three years old, I used to tell him all the time that he had a magical smile. He’d look up at me with those big eyes, full of wonder, and ask, “Really, Mommy?” I would lean down and whisper, as if it were a sacred secret, “Really.”
He would think about it for a while, then say, “Why is it magic, Mommy?” So I would say, “Whenever YOU smile at someone else, they always smile back… no matter what they were doing or thinking before that moment. YOUR smile made their day a little bit brighter, so they smiled back to thank you. Your smile must be magical if it can do all that for someone else.”
