Why Religion is Irrelevant
June 3, 2009
Let’s go there, shall we?
Before you start sending me hate mail, please note that I am not saying religion is unimportant, or that you should not follow a religion of your choosing. Just keep in mind that what works for some, doesn’t necessarily work for others. You chose what you believe in, and everyone else should be afforded the same courtesy. The particulars of each choice have become irrelevant.
Don’t we all want the same things? To love and be loved… to have friends and family… to be safe and healthy, and maybe even happy?
If what you believe makes you a more loving, happy person, then you have found the right thing to believe in. If, on the other hand, it makes you hate or hurt yourself, or ANYONE else, then you may need to keep looking within. I believe you will find you have not yet arrived at the right answers. What matters is what results from your beliefs… is it GOOD?
I have studied the origins of most major religions, as well as the writings of many of the great philosophers. You would think that their theories would be full of differences and distinctions. But what I have found is quite the contrary: they share a common thread. For centuries, great thinkers, writers, and spiritual leaders have been re-packaging and re-branding the same product. We have been buying into different versions of the same message:
Love One Another.
Sure, we could focus on the nuances and variations of how the message is expressed. Or, we could look past the self-serving marketing efforts and get straight to the point… we don’t have to agree to disagree; we have to agree that we already agree! We have been led to believe that we are divided, when really we stand together on a common journey.
You want simple answers? It doesn’t get any simpler than this:
LOVE One Another.
But surely there is more we need to know, right? Only this:
Love ONE ANOTHER!!!!
That alone will solve everything.
