Fellowship Fridays: Getting Your Groove Back
June 26, 2009

Today I’d like to tell you about a wonderful blogger I’ve come to know and love, Shann, from True Balance Life Coaching. What I mean by wonderful blogger is that she blogs AND she’s a wonderful person. In my eyes, it’s not enough just to write great posts, or to publish frequently. I like finding bloggers who are caring, compassionate, and completely excited about life. That is Shann.
Shann Vander Leek is a passionate life coach. She lives to help others achieve their full potential, and you can learn all about her at True Balance Life Coaching. This week I had the pleasure of reading her new ebook, Getting Your Groove Back: A Guide To Luscious Living, and loved it. I don’t ordinarily go in search of ebooks to read, but between the cover photo and the word “Luscious“, this book grabbed my attention.
I want to share with you some of the things I liked about her book, simply because I think you might enjoy it too. Please note I do not earn anything for endorsing her, or for anything you click, buy, or sign up for. This is not a paid review and I don’t stand to gain anything from it. I just like Shann and her work, and that’s what Fellowship Fridays is all about.
The book has four main sections:
1. Gratitude
I love the idea of writing letters of gratitude on a regular basis. Even if you don’t send them, I think it’s a great exercise to remind yourself of how fortunate you are to have others in your life. I’m also the world’s biggest fan of keeping a journal… a real, pen and paper kind. Shann adds several other great tips for increasing your sense of gratitude.
2. Self Care
In this part she tells us how to get our groove back, like after we’ve been on vacation, and have to get back in the swing of things. She also helps us find ways to be happy, and the healthy way to be selfish. Many of us are so busy caring for others we forget to care for ourselves, too!
3. Life Balance
Shann gives us several productive ways to deal with stress. I love all of them (except the exercise one… but that’s just me because I really don’t think I was designed to exercise.) She also helps us address anger issues, and get on with life. Although I don’t struggle with this much, I know it is a biggie for some people. She has lots of other great stuff in that section too… like slaying the dragons in your head. I think this was my favorite section.
4. Transitions
In this part she teaches us how to live in the moment and uncover veiled peacefulness. I love the sound of that… don’t you? She helps us embrace change and learn to give ourselves TIME to change, then has a section about working for a paycheck vs. living life on your own terms. One of my favorite quotes in her book was this one, by Joseph Campbell: “We must be willing to let go of the life we have planned, so as to accept the life that is waiting for us.”
Whatever it is you want to do with your life, I believe Shann can help you chart your course. So, if you would like to check out the ebook for yourself, it’s available at her website: True Balance Life Coaching.
Have you gotten to know Shann?
Are any of these issues challenges for you?
Do you have your own tips for Getting Your Groove Back?
Thanks!
PS: I’d like to state, for the record, that I spent ALL of yesterday afternoon doing almost exactly what the woman in the picture above is doing… floating in a pool, getting my groove back.

Hey Lisis! Thanks for sharing Shann’s blog. I haven’t been her site before, but will definitely do so now under your recommendation. It’s great connecting with other fellow life coaches online, especially since the industry of personal development is still pretty niche in Singapore (where I live).
Hi, Celes! I definitely need to look into Life Coaching a little more. I’ve heard of it some around the Net, but probably should research it further… it sounds like something I might enjoy.
By the way, I love your smiley gravatar. It’s only 7:00 am here, in Georgia, so your smile is the first thing I’m seeing this morning… it sets the tone for a bright and happy day.
Have a wonderful Friday!
Thank you Lisis for this mention.
Writing letters of gratitude is something that is new to me, but I have tried it over the last two days. It really has been a very huge eye opener for myself and my emotions.
Self care is something that I work on each day. When I finally added me to my “to do list” it all made sense.
Life balance is where I fail. I’m trying.
Oh the word transition. This is where I live in a constant state of transition. Powerful and exciting when I don’t think about it. LOL Really.
I have enjoyed getting to know you this week and I look forward to the weeks to come. I feel we have a connection that I plan on watching grow.
Have a fantastic weekend with the family.
Hugs,
Tammy

Hey, Tammy! I’ve really enjoyed our conversations this week too… you have totally helped me wrap my head around the stuff I was feeling, and put it together into something I can get excited about.
I can’t tell you how great it felt to be at the pool all afternoon yesterday, watching Hunter play with his friend, and NOT feeling like I should be doing something for the blog. I literally thought about you several times yesterday, as I was aware that I was making a CHOICE to be there, relaxing… not being pulled away from my blogging duties.
So, I can honestly say, I believe I’m getting my groove back (now I’m ready for some Luscious Living!).
Luscious Living. That reads downright tasty.
1. Have I gotten to know Shann? Nope. But I appreciate the introduction, Lisis. And look forward to broadening my paradigm.
2. Are any of these issues challenges for you? I could do a better job re gratitude. And I’ve a letter or two that not only needs writing, but sending.
3. Do you have your own tips for Getting Your Groove Back? I like to keep life spicy. As such, I find “new” to be rejuvenating. Whether it’s a new book, a new hobby, a new physical skill set, I find I’m in my groove when I’m keeping it fresh.
What about you, Lisis re #3?

Aha, Just read this post, funny.. I really need to get the groove on on my career! he he
Thanks for the intro. I will check out the ebook.

Hey, Nelia… you know what does it for me? The beach… and silence… and back in the old days, when I had some money to spare, I’d go flying. I could always readjust my perspective on life from somewhere up above the clouds, or flying into some random airport in the middle of the desert.
Without the extra cash, or a beach nearby, I pretty much have to go with silence. I like to quiet the noise, and feel like I am at one with everything around me.
You know, I’ve got a few letters that should be written (and sent) as well.
Thanks, Shamelle! I’m so glad you left a comment today because the title of your latest post sounds like a MUST READ for me. I’m not punctually challenged at all, but it drives me nuts when others are… maybe your post will give me some much-needed insights.
Cool picture. Sounds like an interesting ebook.I’ll have to get my hands on a copy. I pretty much have been spending every day at the beach after spending an hour or two looking for a job.

Sounds like an eBook that summarizes some major and recurring themes in personal growth. That’s a nice thing about the eBook format – so concise.
Hi, Srinivas! I love your approach to the job hunt… very balanced: a couple of hours looking for a job, then the rest of the day regrouping at the beach! What a great way to not get burned out on the job search!
Hey, Paul! You know I haven’t read that many ebooks (I suppose because I spend enough time in front of this screen), but I have found this theme cropping up around the blogosphere lately. There is more emphasis on enjoying the moment, than on getting a bunch of stuff done.
I’m much more likely to support this new theme… I’m all about finding ways to enjoy life as much as possible, given the usual challenges and limitations.
Hey Lisis,
Thank you so much for sharing your overflowing well of loving kindness.
I am thrilled that you enjoyed my ebook and completely blown away by your review. WOW!
Discovering your groove and creating a luscious life is all about allowing for grace through the transition. Big hugs and lots of love, Shann

Have a wonderfully Luscious weekend!!!!
Have I gotten to know Shann?
Yes – she’s my Coach and she’s amazing! I’ve had the good fortune of having her guide me through my transition from worker bee to solopreneur.
Cheers,
Amy
Lisis,
As always, a great mention. I just perused Shann’s blog for the first time and it is beautiful.
Thank you to Lisis AND Shann!

Hi, Amy! Well that’s fantastic! How cool it is to meet someone who has worked with Shann? This is so exciting.. and I LOVE that term “solopreneur”. In fact, I loved a whole bunch of phrases and terms from Shann’s book (and blog). She puts a really neat spin on things!
Welcome to Q4B, and thanks for sharing your wonderful endorsement of Shann.
Hey, Chris! Great to see you here again. I’m surprised you still have time for us “little blogs” now that you’re a blogging celebrity!
Take care, hon!
Thanks for the welcome! I’ll be checking back often.
What a wonderful recommendation and sounds like a very interesting book to read. The key points that you’ve listed really sums up the important pieces for personal growth.
Hi Lisis,
I am late getting here since I was out and about having fun and getting my groove back. So this post was perfect for how my day has been. I will definitely go check out that ebook and I love the picture. The beach is one of my favorite places too. I just look at the ocean and it puts everything in perspective. Everything is small in comparison.
We live about an hour away from the ocean and we have not gone down yet due to all the rain. Next week is supposed to be sunnier. I hope that it is so we can put our toes in the sand.

Nadia: Better late than never, darling… and I’m so glad you were out getting your groove back. THAT is a day well-spent, if I do say so.
Luscious Living is such a great sub-title I’ll read it. Thanks for introducing us to Shann.

Thanks for sharing some wonderful info we can all use. I think especially when raising children and working, it is easy for our lives to get out of balance. With others depending on us it is even more important to keep a balance and to get in a healthy place in all facets of our lives.
.-= Erin´s last blog ..Build A Bridge =-.
Hey, Erin! It’s always kind of neat when someone leaves a comment on an older post, ’cause you get to relive the day that it was originally posted, and revisit the theme that was discussed. Thank you for the great reminder to keep finding that healthy balance in life.
