Last Wednesday I started this series of Road to Freedom Updates, in order to keep you involved in the more practical side of our big decision to leave the rat race with no Plan B. In case you missed it, you may want to check out RTF Update #1 first.
The biggest news I have for you is that our road trip will officially begin today! Around lunch time we will embark on the first leg of the trip, from Georgia to North Carolina. We had originally planned to leave tomorrow, but the extraordinary kindness of friends allowed us to get a head start and spend an extra day with Nadia in New York City! So…
Start spreading the news: We’re leaving TODAY!!!

I would hate to be a plant in my garden. The plants I adopt and bring home get a place to stay, and some water from time to time; but the rest is up to them.
In THIS garden, only the strong can even come close to surviving.
I love gardening, and appreciate plants as much as the next person, maybe more. I know the difference between a gardenia and a camellia, a dahlia and a zinnia, a spruce and a fir. I’m familiar with hardiness zones and which species tend to do well wherever I’m living. I don’t plant a tropical palm in a frozen tundra and expect it to thrive.
I do my part.

Most little girls simply adore horses and ponies… I wasn’t one of them. I saw Black Beauty, and I “get” that horses are helpful and majestic creatures. I realize most decent people in the world love horses.
But I don’t.
The only horse I ever adored was the one carrying the Marlboro Man… and that had nothing to do with cigarettes, or horses. Let’s just say, horseback riding is NOT in my comfort zone.
My dad always told me he’d much rather I ride a Harley than a horse, because the Harley doesn’t have a mind of its own. If the horse freaks out, it’ll throw me off in a hurry… which, incidentally, was what happened to Superman.
