Road to Freedom Update #4: Free At Last!!!
September 16, 2009

“Free at last! Free at last! Thank God Almighty, we are free at last!” (MLK)
This is, by necessity, a short update. I just want to let everyone know that we found renters for our house!!! Now, we are free… REALLY free, to move to the next step.
I find this new development miraculous on many levels:
1. We had all but given up on this house, and were prepared to let it go to foreclosure. On Friday morning I woke up so sad about it, and I told Jeff it was such a shame for this lovely, cozy home to be abandoned and go to waste. Someone should benefit from it.
2. That same morning I received three unlikely emails: Jay was checking up on me, Nadia said my name had come up during her morning meditations (so she wanted to check on me), and Lori said that morning she felt a need to pray for me, completely out of the blue. Hmmm… I thought, “What does it mean that these three are thinking of me today?”
3. Well, remembering a story Wilma had shared with me about her experience with renters, and in a last ditch effort to save the house, we created a Craigslist ad offering our house For Rent. Within minutes I had an enthusiastic response. That evening I showed the house THREE times in a row!!! Phew! I was exhausted! No activity for three months, and suddenly this!
4. All three couples wanted the house (it’s a lovely home for the price of an apartment!) We could’ve let them bid for it and make a decent monthly income from it. But instead, we chose the first couple at the stated price, which actually leaves us coming out of pocket each month, since we under-estimated the interest the ad would generate.
5. Our renters are a family of three (the couple has an adorable little baby girl) and were anxious to find a nice, safe place to live… within their budget. So I feel like we’ve all hit the lottery, getting exactly what we were looking for!
Friday morning it looked impossible, and by Friday night it was resolved.
How can that be?!
So, now I have to keep this short because our next step is moving to Vermont by the end of this month! Jeff is heading up there today (on a skymiles ticket, and camping in a state park) to find us a place to rent. I’ve got a million loose ends to tie up, and a whole house to dismantle and pack for a move.
This was a short update, but I wanted to let everyone know because I’m amazed, and hugely relieved, and incredibly excited, and insanely busy! So, if I don’t make it around to your blogs this week, or respond to tweets right away, you’ll know why…
We’re free at last!!!
Bottom Line: If we had this decision to make over again, would we do it? 100% YES.
Do YOU believe in miracles? I know I do!!!
PS: Thank you Wilma, Lori, Nadia and Jay… from the bottom of my heart. Â

Lisis (and family),
I’m so happy for all of you, and for this to have worked out so well and so quickly! I believe very deeply that this is in part the Universe coming to you in making these new dreams ahead of yours possible. And that you had the support of an amazing group of people – Jay, Nadia, Lori, and Wilma – how great a sign of what truly IS possible, especially with the caring support of others!
Happy packing!

You will be so so busy and tired, but happy all the way…and that a true divine gift. To be truly happy. Enjoy your new chapter as it begins, and savor all the twists and turns it brings, cause in all those twists and turns hide the true essence of life and divine love.
Jay Nadia Lori and Wilma were already awesome in my mind…but now they have risen far above that. Support of loved ones is indeed the wind beneath our wings.
Lots and lots of love and hugs to you.

I don’t normally believe in miracles, but having read your post, I may have to rethink that. I’m delighted for you.
Congrats Lisis! And welcome (soon) to New England! I think you’ll like it here, and Vermont is soooo beautiful!
Cheers,

Hi, everyone! I just got back from taking Jeff to the airport!! Eeek! By this weekend, I’ll know my new address!
I won’t be able to reply to each person today ’cause… well, it’s time to pack! I’ve never done a 21 hour drive with a U-Haul and two cats before. This promises to be quite an adventure (although I’m not really looking forward to THAT part).
But I AM looking forward to spending my birthday in Vermont during Peak Fall Season… can you imagine how glorious those colors will be?! And it’s a good thing, too, because I’m gonna need all the inspiration I can get to make it through a Vermont winter!
I wonder if I’ll be the only Costa Rican living there? Tropical babies (like me) are a bit like iguanas… when it gets cold, we hunker down and stop moving. I can just see Jeff and Hunter out snowboarding, while I’m indoors, wrapped up in electric blankets, blogging!
PS: Bill, I’m not accustomed to believing in miracles either, but… I sure do now!
Heya Lisis!
Congratulations, so happy for you you got someone to rent, and that its a win-win deal for everyone!
Things always play out as they should
Good luck with the move to vermont!
Cheers!

I’m so happy for you guys! I love it when things fall into place like this, and we are left with little choice but to believe that the hand of the Divine has played a part and that the universe is conspiring to deliver all we ever wanted. I love how it all worked out so suddenly, and so perfectly for everyone involved. Truly awesome story!

Hi Lisis,
Yay!!!!! WOO HOO!!!! Goes to show you, that the pieces ALWAYS fall into place! Words cannot describe the joy that I feel for you. Plus, as an added benefit, you will be relatively closer to us now.
And you don’t need to thank me, that is what friends do…they love and care.

Hooray! Great news, Lisis. Things do have a way of working out, and when they do, suddenly everything changes.
I also smiled at the thought of a young new family making a home out of your old home. Their lives are moving on from somewhere else, and so is yours. Have a great trip, let the cats drive if you get tired.

Thank you, guys! I’m so excited that you guys are excited, and we’re all looking forward to seeing what comes next! It’s such a great feeling to be looking forward to something… Fall, snow, new adventures, being closer to Nadia!
I have to tell you all, I feel about 300 pounds lighter now, without the weight of the house payment or foreclosure issue on my shoulders. For a while it felt like we were trapped, down in a hole. When Jeff quit, we started digging our way out, but the house issue was a big one. We could see a tiny light in the distance, but had no idea how we would get there.
Now I feel like we’re out of the hole. We still don’t know what the future is going to look like, but at least we’re starting from level ground. From HERE, we can build anything we want!!! You can’t build in a hole… you just can’t. Getting to level ground is half the battle.
Phew!!! Time to wipe my brow and look ahead. Hmmm… what would I like to do now?
I can’t wait to hear about Jeff’s trip up there, and to see how the next phase of the journey unwinds! And of course, we’re hoping to visit you up there in your lovely New England home. “I love it when a plan comes together!”

Hi Lisis!
This is what friends do. We care. We wake up in the middle of the night and send good vibes out into the universe for each other. No thank you necessary!
I love this story, Lisis. I literally have goosebumps after considering the events that have come together for you as well as the family who will be living in your sacred space.
Thanks for sharing this inspiring story with us.
(I still have goosebumps!)

OMG, you guys… that family… I LOVE that family! They are coming back this weekend to bring their mommas because they are just so excited and in disbelief. This home is perfect for them. It’s safe, cozy, peaceful, and full of love. They are perfect for this home, ’cause they are exactly the same… brimming with love and optimism. And the baby! I adore their little girl!!!
In another neat twist of fate, we’ll be leaving most of our stuff here for them… all the appliances, table, couch, dressers, art, and anything else we don’t need that they might want or need. We are just taking the basics, the stuff we really can’t live without. That means less packing and moving of the big things. Yay!
What I love most about all this is I don’t feel like it’s just some cosmic favor or good fortune for us… like we’re dumping our house on some random strangers. I feel like THEY were due for a break too… we all benefit from this in so many ways.
Gives me goosebumps too, Lori!
Congratulations! That’s so awesome, and just proves to me what an energetically interconnected world we live in. Way to go!

This is so awesome. I want something like this to happen to me. I want to reach toward my desires and one day attain them. Now I know that anything is possible
Good luck in Vermont! After I get my “little project” up and running (it’ll take a while), I’ll be sure to come visit you!

Absolutely! You are all invited! Of course, be prepared to sleep on the floor ’cause we’ll probably be starting out with something pretty small.
Awesome things DEFINITELY happen, if you just let them.
Jeff just called and he’s in Stowe, about to go in search of his campsite. If he doesn’t freeze (or get entangled with bears) tonight, he’ll be on a quest for housing in the morning. I wish he had a web cam with him, so I could see what he sees. Oh, well… gonna have to trust him on this one!
Lisis, YOU CHAMP.
You have done it again, role modeling how life flows when you allow it and when you can stop the urge to meddle prematurely.
I am sooo proud of you as I know what it takes to trust when being in that position.
Now you will find accomodation that fits your budget in the same way you have given your tenants that break. YOU WILL as you give it time and be open to your heart.
OH Lisis, I am with you all the way, I am shouting on the side line to keep you going.
Hugs, hugs to all of you.

FANNNtastic! Lisis, you have projected nothing but positive energy and intention about this from the get-go! And now have clearly demonstrated to one and all just how powerful that energy is! Add to that, everyone in the blogosphere has been cheering you on – and voila – what appears as a miracle! LOVE it! Your warm heart will help you survive the northern winter, no doubt about that! CHEERS!

Tess The Bold LIfe´s last blog ..It’s All About You
Hi, everyone!
Here’s the latest: Jeff has been to tons of apartments and is now down to one in Waterbury, one in Stowe and one in Montpelier. We’ll have to do a little pros and cons thing tonight, but I think he’ll be signing a lease by tomorrow!
It’s an interesting feeling… signing a lease without a job, or any idea of where our income will come from. It’s interesting because we have to Trust that we WILL earn what we need, and the landlord has to Trust us to come up with it each month. I guess we come across as pretty trustworthy, because it hasn’t been a problem so far.
TRUST & FAITH are truly amazing. Everything is possible when you have Faith, and Trust that things will work out. It’s like being a kid all over again. You don’t know HOW things work, you just know that they DO.
The world feels fresh again… full of wonder and infinite possibilities!
Oh Lisis this is such an amazing story and do I ever believe in miracles!!! They are part of our daily existence. We just have to believe. And of course trust and not give up.
I wonder how many people realize that they were just about to get what they so wanted, but they walked away from it too early. Just when the universe was about to open, they abandoned their dreams.
So good for you! This is all sounding so amazing, and although not as extreme in my life, what has been happening in mine lately has been nothing short of a miracle either
Many continued blessings to you!

Hi Lisis,
In March I wanted to help with our financial situation, so my husband and I took a little bit of money and purchased a foreclosed condo. We fixed it up (complete remodel) and have been trying to find a renter ever since. Everyday we put a different ad on Craigslist. We have never had one response to our ad. I do believe in miracles and I believe it was your friends prayers that were answered. I’m so happy for you…now on to Vermont!!!
Here is your new personal slogan: “I’m going to be a wallah in Vermont!” That alone should draw many interesting people to you, and one of them will be able to guide you toward your new “thing”!
Audra Krell´s last blog ..Gonna be a Chai Wallah
Hi, Audra! Thank you so much for sharing that story. I’m so sorry you haven’t found renters, but I’m really thankful for the added perspective. Since I’ve never advertised for renters before, I have no point of comparison. I had a *feeling* we got extraordinarily lucky (blessed), getting three interested parties within minutes of the posting, but you have just confirmed that feeling.
For me, that day, it FELT miraculous. Even before the listing… when my friends were pulling for me all on the same day for no apparent reason. I was almost not surprised when things turned out as they did later that evening!
I love that slogan, “I am a Wallah in Vermont”… I’ll find what kind of wallah before too long.
