Adventure: Starting Over
October 5, 2009

Well, we’ve now officially left our old home and started our new life. It was a little sad at first, I cannot lie. We have a lot of great memories from our time in this house. We only brought with us whatever we could fit in this trailer… which is just as well, because our new apartment is small… or, I should say, cozy.
We’re still getting settled into it. In fact, we won’t even have internet until tomorrow. I’m currently hijacking the Wi-Fi at Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, so I’ll keep this post short. I just wanted to update anyone who was wondering if we’d made it to Vermont.
We made it!
We love it!
Autumn in Vermont is SPECTACULAR!!!! I’ve never seen anything like it. I hope to get out around town this week and get some pictures to share with you in a later post (one that I can put together at home).
I wanted to mention three things about starting over in life, because I know I’m not the only one going through this. Starting over is exciting, but it’s not easy.
1. It can be scary. I think this is normal. For all our trust, faith and hope that things will work out, it can still be unsettling to have no idea HOW that will happen. But just because it’s a little scary doesn’t mean it was the wrong decision; it just means life will be different than it was before. Sometimes different is a really good thing.
2. Starting over is a second chance at life. How many of us have said, “I wish I’d known then what I know now… I would have done things differently.” Well, when you start over, whether it’s by choice or by circumstance, you get a second chance to set up your life the way you want it. This time around, you have the benefit of experience and wisdom. What a great opportunity for a lifestyle makeover.
3. Look ahead, not back. Take this as your chance to dump the baggage that has weighed you down all these years. Don’t waste time or energy looking back and wishing things had turned out differently. THIS is your life… it’s time to face it, create it, embrace it. What do you want your life to look like? Start taking your first steps in that direction NOW.
That’s it, for now. I’ve gotta run. I sure do miss being online with all of you, and hope to be back “up and running” by midweek, so I probably won’t be able to reply to comments until then. But I would love to hear from you.
Have you started over in life? Do you have any advice to make this transition easier? Are you starting over now?
Thanks!!!

Hey Lisis!
Congratulations! You are finally living your dream:)
It’s such a big step you are taking, one that many people want to take but few actually do. I’d love to see some pictures of Vermont, it sounds like such a pretty place.
Have an awesome week!

This post comes at the perfect time. Chris and I are talking about living out of the country which, if you think about it, is a scary and giant thing to even contemplate. But I have to be honest, I’m more excited now than I could have imagined.
Good luck you both in your new home!

Congrats on the big move Lisis.
I remember the similar feelings both when I was leaving my hometown here in The Bahamas to go to college in Canada and coming back. At first there was a sense of discomfort not knowing what to expect, which was quickly followed by an exhilarating sense of adventure settling in and meeting new people, and finally there came a conscious rebirth…knowing that I can create this experience to be whatever I want it to be.
Hope you enjoy your new location and explore it to the fullest.
Cheers,

Starting over is one of the biggest and best chances you can have. You not only left your furniture behind, you can leave old personality traits you no longer need, old belief systems that no longer serve you, and old worn out habits that aren’t going to get you to your goals.
Moving is the chance to cleanse and really start over.
Good luck and have a wonderful future!

Starting over is definitely scary AND exciting. If I were you, I’d try to focus on the new, exciting things rather than what you’re losing. Look at the positive! And live in the present moment!

Hi Lisis! Glad you made it safely! Starting over can be both scary and inspiring, but that’s sort of where the aliveness of it all comes from. I bet it’s really nice up there right now! I’ve moved a lot but never very far as you have. Vermont is beautiful. Can’t wait to hear more!

Hi Lisis,
Welcome home! To your new home, and to all that the future holds for you and your family. Seeing you live this out, each step of the way, wow! It’s so good to witness what you’re doing – and then to think about my own life and where I’m at. And about life changes. And what they mean, and how to dig deep and find those connections in our hearts that are so, so good (and also a bit scary).
You, awesome friend, continue to shine your beautiful light into the world!

Hi Lisis,
Yay! Congratulations on the new home! May all your times there be filled with love and light.
As for starting over, every second is a chance to start over and I think we all have new beginnings more than once or twice in our lives. At least, that has been my experience.
Just make the best out of each moment and trust that all will work out. It always does one way or another.
By the way, aren’t the colors of the leaves awesome at this time of year?

Hey Lisis. Great to hear from you.
I have started over 3 times in my life.
Migrated to the other side of the world, left a marriage and then left a job, went to live rurally and am building a business.
Scary, yes. Amazing ‘yes’. Regrets, ‘never’.
To live is to experience things. You cannot live life from an armchair.
Sometimes we wish we could and Disney rides are fun for that, but if it is not the real thing it will never give us the huge benefits of knowing how it is to live life to the full.
You are doing a great thing, you will find resources you never knew you had in you and THAT is the real treasure of doing what you are doing. You find that you are greater than you have ever thought and is that not the aim of living?
Lisis, go, be scared, but do not settle for anythign less that wahat feels good to your heart, do not look back and never ever regret a decision. Waste of time AND you will never find out nanthing worthwhile as a result of thinking about the what ifs.
Hugs to you all, Wilma

Congratulations on your new home! My advice to you is when feeling stressed give yourself a break! It takes time to make new friends, find your way around and think of this new place as home.
Enjoy each new step of your recreation or reinvention. Go slowly and use extreme self care. But most of all enjoy it all! I love what Wilma says “You will find you are greater than you ever thought” So True!
Congrats on the big day!
Rebuilding your life is such FUN!
Having also started over a few times now and in the process of doing it again right at this moment I know first hand how you are feeling.
My advice:
relax
take your time
take time out
do all the things you promised yourself you would do and change the things you wanted to
it will all sort out the way it will
and it will be perfect
Brigid
I’m so glad that you made it safe and sound. Your adventure can really begin now. I am so excited for you and your family. Recreating a life is both exciting and scary, but with each other its all good. Many blessings in this transition into your new surroundings.

Lisis, you’ve made it. The hard part’s pretty much over (isn’t it?). You’ve moved on to a new life. New experiences await you and hopefully await us on the blog to hear about as well. There are some definite changes I’m making in my life. Though it will be a difficult path, I know that these changes are necessary for me to become the person I want to be.
Can’t wait for new pics. Love ya!

Yay for you and your new chapter! I’ve “started over” so many times it is like a comedy looking back! All of life is starting over – and over – and over! It’s all part of being alive. It gets a bit weary sometimes, like oh no, not AGAIN, but each time has it’s rainbows!
We’re all pulling for you! (I know you know that by now!)
Hugs,

Hi, Everyone!!!
It’s Tuesday afternoon and I’m back online… from my living room! Yay!!!
I have about a zillion emails to sort through, and other random catching up to do, but I hope to be back up to speed before too long. I have really missed being able to interact with all of you here and at your blogs, so I’m looking forward to getting back to that.
Thank you all for the wonderful, supportive comments and for all the helpful hints about these transitions. One thing I’m having to adjust to pretty quickly is that, contrary to what I imagined, Ben & Jerry’s is MORE expensive here! I thought I’d have cheaper access to the many flavors here, but the opposite is true because of the tourism.
THIS development is not something I’d considered. Hmmm… still, I’ve tried a few flavors that I’d never heard of before, so I’m pretty happy to be so close to the “mother ship” anyway.
I’m not sure yet when I’ll have my next post up, but I know it will include some of the pictures I’ve been taking around town… I never knew such colors were possible! The mountain behind my apartment is ablaze in beauty (I can see it from my bed!!!). I wish you all could come hang out with me here; I’m not sure I’ll ever be able to capture this splendor in pictures or words, but I’ll do my best in an upcoming post.
Well, I’m off to start the email sorting process. Thanks, to all of you, for stopping by!!!
Lisis
Good luck, this is so exciting. It’s the ‘restart’ button, like you said. I don’t think I have any advice you haven’t heard already, or shared yourself, but I wish you well and look forward to hearing more…

Congratulations, Lisis! I was thinking of you last week as I drove through the Adirondack mountains and absorbed the incredible colors. It made me wonder how you’re finding Vermont?
As for starting over, I’ve given myself a lot of chances to start over in romantic relationships. Seems that’s the area I’m still trying to perfect (I use that term loosely). Constantly learning and constantly opening up to better ways of being.
I’m in awe of your strength, and really want to visit Vermont just for the heck of it — it’s such a beautiful state, and so “open.” (In many ways) Enjoy it!

Hey Lisis! Nice to hear about you again, I haven’t had too much time lately to stay online. Congratulations, I’m glad you’re having a good time there:D
“I wish I’d known then what I know now… I would have done things differently.”
If we always saw things the way we see them now, where would the adventure part be?
~ that’s what makes life beautiful
Yes, I have started over. I took my son (Hunter) to Berlin Aug/Sept. We wanted to stay forever. Things didn’t go according to plan and we had to leave all of our things in the middle of the night in a mad rush to get home. Now we are starting from scratch again. 2nd time in 4 months.
We have lost everything and yet I can only feel grateful. It seems so strange to say that. But we are truly free now. I really believe everything works towards the greatest good and we’ve nothing to fear.
Love and Illumination,
E
Hi, E.! That sounds like quite a story… If you ever feel inspired to share it, either here or on email, I’d love to know the rest of it. You are so right that things always work out as they should, even when it seems inconvenient while we’re going through it. Good luck with your new start (and I love your son’s name!).
