kids in india 490x227 Inspiration from Mother Teresa

People are often unreasonable, irrational, and self-centered. Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives. Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends and some genuine enemies. Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and sincere people may deceive you. Be honest and sincere anyway.

What you spend years creating, others could destroy overnight. Create anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous. Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, will often be forgotten. Do good anyway.

Give the best you have, and it will never be enough. Give your best anyway.

In the final analysis, it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway.

    Lisis,

    Thanks for the inspiration!

My favorite part is the very first line…

“People are often unreasonable, irrational, and self-centered. Forgive them anyway.”

We often expect people to be completely rational according to how we define rational. Sometimes what appear rational to us is not rational to them.

You’re welcome Roger… I thought it might be nice to start sharing some of my favorite inpirational speeches and writings on Sundays. It still counts as a “rest” day for me (since I’m not writing the content,) and we all get to be inspired by some great people anyway. :)

Thanks for visiting today! Have a wonderful Sunday!!!

    Good Morning, Lisis!

I love the quote. Mother Theresa was such a powerful example of how one person can make a difference. She was also an example of faith and love. :)

Of course I love “be happy anyway” the best but all of these are wonderful. Thanks for posting this. I think it would be a great idea to share some inspirational things on Sunday and allow yourself a rest day! :)

Happy rest day, girls! I forgot to mention that the photo above was taken by my friend, Neil (the one that drove around the world) when he was in Assam, India. He said there had been severe flooding so all these people were living by the side of the road. He could not get over how happy all the kids looked… completely not bothered by their dire circumstances.

I just love those smiling kids!!

Mother Theresa is one of my heroes. Such love, such faith, such compassion. I think we could all stand to be more like her. Thank you for the Sunday inspiration!

I love how truly inspired quotes can mean different things to different people, based solely on what they are going through in their lives at any given moment. I’m sure my personal troubles are far removed from the kinds of troubles that Mother Theresa faced, and the kinds of difficulties that I have in relating to people are far different from the difficulties she had, but these quotes seem to speak directly to me, and to my life. I’m sure they speak to everyone in the same way. Divine inspiration is universal.

A very beautiful list. If we can do all the “anyway” stuff, it will be a tremendous step forward, but it can be hard.

Hi, guys… It IS tough, and we do each have our specific challenges. They may be different from the challenges others face, but that doesn’t really make them any less difficult to deal with. As a matter of fact, some of Mother Teresa’s greatest challenges were her personal, internal struggles… you can read about those in “Come Be My Light.”

Choosing the life she chose was not easy, and not even supported by most of the people who knew her… but she did it anyway. That’s the key, isn’t it?

    :)

    Yes, that is key. ;-)

There’s a great version of this advice called “The Paradoxical Commandments” by Kent M. Keith that Mother Teresa either inspired or was inspired by which I featured at my blog some time back.. Read this anyway ~_^

I do hope you & your readers will read it. ^_^ I’m awfully glad to have found you via Nadia @Happy Lotus for balance is likely the word I say almost as often as coffee. ~_~

Hi, Dorian! I can see that we are twin souls already, since coffee runs in my veins (I’m Costa Rican) and balance is what I’m all about. Thank you for commenting and sharing this link with us. I’m about to go check it out.

    Thanks!!!

I am in the middle of her book, “A Simple Path.” She is so wise…she is still such a blessing!

  • Lisis May 18, 2009 at 7:40 pm

Hi, Britt! I don’t think I’ve read “A Simple Path”… I’m going to have to look that one up! The Dalai Lama said what made her so wonderful was not just that she was compassionate, but that she put her compassion in action. I guess that’s the toughest part, huh?

    Thanks for commenting!

I love this! I know very little about Mother Teresa but am inspired to discover more based on this!

Well that’s great, Ian. Sounds like Britt’s recommendation of “A Simple Path” might be a good place to start. :)
